Augmentative Communication Evaluations Simplified (ACES): Tools and Resources
These informative and fun workshops demonstrate a variety of resources and ideas which assist participants to move easily, thoroughly, and efficiently through the AAC assessment process. They help you simplify your AAC evaluation using the ACES Module and “toolkit” approach, and are packed with information for your AAC evaluation.
In the workshops you will:
- Explore communication needs using the simplest to most sophisticated communication tools/devices/Apps (i.e. low-tech to high-tech)
- Provide support for assessment procedures with premade forms/templates from the ACES Module (provided on a CD)
- Determine AAC device features to aid in decision-making and feature matching. Includes information on new mobile technology (i.e. iPads, apps, etc.)
- Learn how to use the “toolkit approach” with low-cost, easy-to-use, recommended toolkit items to do an effective AAC evaluation
- Evaluate AAC comunication demo software for devices along with a review of helpful AAC Apps
- Learn about pre-made activities, pictures, objects, and overlays to help you get started
- Evaluate the best access for communication tools (touch, switch, eyegaze, etc.) using low-tech tools
These workshops provide:
- A complete AAC process (ACES Module) including forms and templates
- A specialized toolkit list of low-cost yet effective communication items so you can assemble your own
- AAC device decision-making tools including free trials of clinical online tools
Participants will be provided:
- CD with forms/templates/ideas to assist in completing evaluations
- Lists / website resources / flyers to research AAC device and apps options
